What is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)? In OCD sufferers experience repetitive, intrusive and unwelcome impulses and doubts which they find hard to ignore. These obsessive impulses reoccur over and over again
.
While we all suffer fear based thoughts from time to time, excessive fearful thoughts and fearful feelings can lead to these obsessive repetitive impulses. To a mind unable to control its thoughts it is but a small step to the obsessive compulsive actions characteristic of OCD.
People with this disorder feel the urge to carry out specific actions such as touching, nail biting, counting, excessive double-checking, hand washing, cleaning, hoarding, praying and ordering or arranging and so on.
They feel compelled to do so to release the incessant build up of emotional and physical tension. The more an individual tries to stop carrying out the rituals the harder they find it to stop and it worsens when they are under stress. Fortunately there are several cures for this disorder, including the very popular OCD & Anxiety Treatment with the Linden Method. Already 130,000+ Success Stories.
Generally an OCD sufferer carries out repetitive tasks in order to subconsciously find relief and comfort when confronted by irrational fears triggered by certain situations. Anxiety can so build up as to have a detrimental biological effect on the body. The central nervous system has an effective anxiety control center in the brain, the Amygdala, which works like an 'anxiety thermostat'. It tells the body when and how to respond towards anxiety.
But in anxiety disorders, the anxiety meter re-sets to a higher level that makes the body secrete different kinds of hormones, especially adrenalin. As anxiety levels increase, the adrenaline count in the blood rises. In this state, the anxiety control center receives exaggerated signals and threatening messages from sensory organs such as eyes, ears, nose, skin and mouth.
There are different opinions about how to treat these anxiety attacks ranging from medication to therapy. The pharmaceutical approach may be the answer for some, but definitely not for all; psychological therapy is another option.
One effective technique that goes right down to the root cause of the problem and simply puts a stop to it is described in a book called The Root Cause. It provides a step-by-step description of how to cure OCD. A person suffering from this disorder for a long period could also develop other anxieties such as fear of rejection, fear of failure, panic attacks, social fear and depression. In this book a simple cure for OCD and for these other anxieties is explained.
Learning how to treat anxiety attacks is a very individual journey. It involves learning how you personally react to stressful situations and deal with everyday life. The main thing is to be aware of the many types of treatment available and keep trying different techniques until you find one that works for you.
